Before the main Monsters of Ahiʻkoa series, Saltbound brings Lani Kahale home from Honolulu to her family's salt pans. The novella is complete, and it takes place decades before Tidebound.
Who's here
Lani works in a Honolulu laboratory. Akahi is an ancient salt spirit with a crystalline, non-human form, the keeper of the lagoon. Lani’s return brings her into contact with the lagoon’s keeper and the family history she left behind.
Where we are
Ahiʻkoa is a fictional Pacific island. In Saltbound, the setting centers on the lagoon and salt pans, with a family tradition of giving salt rather than selling it.
What she brings back
Lani has work and a life waiting in Honolulu. Her attachment to Akahi complicates the decision to return to it. Home now includes someone she didn’t expect to find.
